1066 Schools Book Award

Students are already avidly reading this year’s shortlist.  The winner will be announced in March at a presentation evening at Bexhill Academy.

Last year’s winner, Smart by Kim Slater, is still proving a popular read in the libraries. Students can enter competitions such as Get Caught Reading, Designing an alternative book cover and writing reviews of the books.

A review of last year’s winner, Smart

"This is a good book!  I liked it a lot. The author did a good job on the names and the plot.

It is sad that Kieran does not have a dad; his nan is in hospital; a man is found in a river and Tony keeps on hitting Kieran’s mum.

It’s funny when Karwanna hits Scarface on the head with a frying pan!

At the end Tony and his son Ryan go to prison. And Kieran gets to live with his mum and nan."
