#greatgirlsgreatgoals - International Women's Day at Ark Helenswood
Past and present Ark Helenswood students have come together to mark International Women’s Day and share experiences of school and the working world. Our Year 11 classes heard from former Helenswood students who are now working in technology, psychology, fashion, medicine and business to inspire them to aspire and succeed.
Students received wristbands with the event’s hashtag, #greatgirlsgreatgoals, as mementoes of the day and a reminder to aspire towards high academic and professional aims ahead of their GCSE exams this summer.
Ark Helenswood Academy’s Head Girl, Febienne Fuller, organised the event with Future First and said: “One of the things I wanted to achieve as Head Girl was an event for International Women’s Day where we brought inspiring former Helenswood girls into the school to show our Year 11 students what can be achieved after school.”
Ark Helenswood Principal Lucy Monk said: “This International Women’s Day, Ark Helenswood students celebrated together with former Helenswood girls who returned to give thanks for the richness of their lives, lives which started at this school.
“At Ark Helenswood, we teach that each of us our students can, with hard work and commitment, go confidently in the direction of their dreams. It’s through events like this that our students inspire, achieve and excel, so they can realise those dreams.”
Future First Programme Officer Petrina De Gouttes said: “Today has been all about preparing our students for being ambitious women in the 21st century and showing current Ark Helenswood students the inspiring things that former students at the school have achieved.
“What’s been really nice about today is that this is something that has come from the students themselves – the Head Girl team have done an amazing job bringing together alumni to talk about their career paths with current students.”
