Helenswood Academy is Hastings’ top-performing secondary school

The publication of secondary league tables today showed that Helenswood Academy is the top-performing secondary school in Hastings for GCSE results. This gives the school strong foundations to build on as it begins life as an ARK academy.

The performance tables confirmed that 56% of pupils at Helenswood Academy achieved 5A*-C at GCSE, including English and maths. This is higher than any other secondary school in Hastings, including The Hastings Academy and The St Leonard’s Academy.

Overall, 90% of students at Helenswood achieved 5A*-C at GCSE - above the national average of 82%.

This year will be the first that Helenswood pupils sit their exams as ARK pupils, having joined the high-performing academy network last September. The expectation is that results will continue to improve.

Lucy Monk, Principal at Helenswood Academy, said: “I’m thrilled at what our students achieved last year – they did us, and themselves, proud. It means that Helenswood has started life as an ARK academy on a really strong footing. We’re confident that things are only going to get better from here, and are excited about what the future holds for our pupils.”
